Brooklyn Animal Action
Overview
Brooklyn Animal Action is a group of volunteers committed to improving the lives of cats and other animals throughout New York City. They facilitate animal fostering and adoption, conduct community outreach and advocacy, and reduce vulnerable cat populations through their trap-neuter-release program.
After using their site through my own cat adoption process, I noticed opportunities for smoother site navigation and a refreshed UI, so I chose to prospectively redesign it.

I adopted my own cats from Brooklyn Animal Action, and prospectively redesigned their site using a mobile-first approach.
My Process
I was inspired by vintage poster design and choose a bold, strong typeface that evokes a grungier, “Brooklyn” aesthetic. I selectively chose and styled imagery to represent the somber reality of cats living on the street, which I balanced through the use of playful cat decals sprinkled throughout the site.
I simplified the navigation to drive users toward donation, adoption and getting involved, ensuring that the layout translated to an attractive and easy mobile experience (see below).
